Jungheinrich UK has pledged its support to international development charity, Transaid.

Steve Richmond, Director – Logistics Systems, is helping to coordinate the firm’s activities after being named an ambassador of the charity.

Transaid transforms lives through safe, available, and sustainable transport. Founded by Save the Children, The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT), and its Patron, HRH The Princess Royal, the international development organisation shares 20 years’ worth of expertise from multiple countries with partners and governments – empowering people to build the skills they need to transform their own lives.

Steve said: “As organisations increasingly look to optimise their materials handling systems for greater productivity and efficiency, opportunities within transport and logistics are set to change.

“Greater collaboration through initiatives such as Transaid is key to sharing the knowledge that will help drive the industry forward, solve transport and logistics challenges, and improve lives around the world.”

One of Jungheinrich’s first fundraising initiatives is supporting the Transaid 2020 Land’s End to John O’Groats cycle challenge.

Transaid is looking for more than 100 cyclists from the industry to join in the challenge.

From Tuesday 2nd to Sunday 14th June 2020, cyclists will tour the full length of Great Britain to raise vital funds for Transaid’s important work.

Steve said: “By joining this unforgettable challenge, your support will help to transform lives by improving commercial driving standards and ensuring better access to healthcare in sub-Saharan Africa.

“By registering, you’ll be joining a team of dedicated Transaid supporters to make this challenge one of the most memorable yet. Options are available to take part across the full 12-day adventure end-to-end, to take on a single stage (there are four in total), or to enter a relay team with each taking on a stage and sharing the fundraising target together.”

Florence Bearman, Head of Fundraising at Transaid said: “Our cycle challenges have been taking place since 2006 and continue to grow in popularity each time. The plan was always to do something special to mark our 20th anniversary, and we hope holding the event here in the UK will mean as many supporters as possible can saddle up and join us for what is going to be something really special.”
